This is Where to Start

Because writing songs scratches an itch in my brain, there are a lot of All Hallow’s Evil songs: 120 of them at my last count. That’s more songs than the Eagles discography, but for some reason they have 22,144,607 more monthly listeners on Spotify. I can only assume that’s because they have 13 greatest hits compilations.

They also had hits, but that’s not the point right now.

This point is, through weeks of strenuous deliberation, I narrowed the All Hallow’s Evil discography down to the 12 most immediate songs and completely remastered them into A Beginner’s Guide to All Hallow’s Evil. And then I wrote another song and threw that on there too, bringing the total count of All Hallow’s Evil songs to 121. I suppose the smart thing to do would be to delete the entire All Hallow’s Evil discography and release this as a debut album under a new name, but I’m stuck in my ways.

To keep things fresh, I also slid a couple of re-recordings in there. “Myopic” was re-recorded in the fall of 2023 as an experiment to get familiar with some new tools. I heavily remixed it here because I finally know how to use those tools. “As We Suffer” was re-recorded back in the heady days of 2016 when I thought I was going to change names to Slowbleed and start fresh. Turns out there was another Slowbleed, so this “As We Suffer” re-recording now takes it’s proper place as an All Hallow’s Evil song.

And there’s the new song, “The World is Built to Break Your Heart.” An offhand comment in a review of 2023’s Coven brought me as close as I’ve ever come to shutting this whole operation down. Wasn’t even a particularly bad or mean spirited comment, just made me feel like there was always going to be a massive disconnect between where I was coming from and where the audience is. I eventually decided I was fine with that, listened to the entire Prince discography, wrote that song and put this compilation together. All Hallow’s Evil dies when I do, baby!
